I’ve shared a lot lately about our backyard and all the improvements we’ve made since moving in. We’ve done some pretty large scale DIYs like building a farmhouse table that can seat 12, fixing the rainwater drainage issue around our patio, and adding patio stones to extend our patio and make it look much nicer. Your home can be your escape from the world and you want your backyard to be a peaceful and relaxing place. I’m sharing five ways to do just that!
5 Ways To Make Your Backyard An Oasis
1. Plants and Flowers
One of the easiest way to improve your backyard is with some landscaping. Planting flowers will instantly add color to your yard! The simplest way to do this is with containers and hanging baskets. These are easy to plant and even easier to maintain.
2. Comfortable Seating
Having a comfortable place to sit and relax is also a very important part of your backyard. We built this DIY outdoor couch using free pallets and a couple of crib mattresses! It’s an inexpensive way to add plenty of seating for your guests. I also love our hammock! It’s a comfortable place to read a book or to soak up some sun.
3. Accessories
Adding accessories customizes your backyard and brings in your personality! We used bright colors in our decorating and went with a tropical theme for our patio. Our DIY pineapple planter ties the space together.
4. Drinks and Snacks
My *favorite* way to make your backyard an oasis is to have snacks and drinks on hand! What better way to unwind and enjoy the summer sun than with some yummy snacks drinks? Summer is the time to slow down, relax in the hammock, and sip on a ready to drink coffee from Walmart. I like to have “munchable” snacks on hand like fruit, nuts, and chips or crackers. On my way out of the store I picked up the new Bottled Frappuccino®, as well as my go to favorite Mocha.
5. Lighting
Lighting is a great way to set a relaxing mood on your patio. We put up string lights around the patio so that even when the sun goes down, we can continue to enjoy our outdoor space. We also like to light candles or use LED “candles” in the evenings as well.
