4th of July weekend is almost here and our backyard is no stranger to guests. I’ve shared several projects lately about how we are preparing our back yard for outdoor get-togethers.
I added a DIY fabric curtain for shade from the sun and we built an amazing farmhouse table that seats 10. One chore we have to do every week is mowing the lawn. We get notes on our door all the time from lawn care companies offering to provide this service for us, but Eric and I both enjoy mowing the yard and tending our flower beds.
Our garage had become a catch all and most of our lawn care equipment is piled around different parts of the garage. We also want to start parking our cars in the garage. We used the Rubbermaid® FastTrack® Garage Organization System from The Home Depot to finally get our garage organized!
We have a good size garage but lately we’ve let things pile up in there. This made it hard to find things we needed and we were wasting time. We purchased the Rubbermaid® FastTrack® Garage Hang to utilize the wall space in the garage.
By hanging up our lawn and garden equipment, they took up less space and were easy to find when we need them! Each rail holds up to 1,750 lbs and were quick and easy to install.
First, do a little clean up. We went through the garage and found the boxes and things that we could put up in the rafters. Boxes of Christmas stuff? You go in the attic until winter!
Next, take an inventory. We had our shovels, rakes, and brooms piled in a corner and the weed eater and leaf blower laying in another. We took a quick inventory of our equipment then headed to The Home Depot!
The backbone of the system is the FastTrack Garage Hang Rails. We got two 84in rails and one 48in rail. Don’t forget the hardware packs to hang them! 1 pack is needed to mount a 48″ rail and 2 packs are needed to mount an 84″ rail.
We also picked up several different hooks. My favorite is the Rubbermaid® FastTrack® Two-Handle Hook ! It lets you hang up 2 different tools on one hook.
Once you get home, you are ready to get everything hung! We were able to get everything mounted and hung on the wall in about 10 minutes! It took much longer to get the rest of the garage cleaned 😉 Use the heavy duty screws in the hardware kit (and the drywall anchors if you have drywall) to mount the steel rail. The rail has 1 inch spacing between the holes and works with standard 16 inch or 24 inch stud spaces. Lucky for us, we can see the studs in our garage so we got our rails up super fast!
After the rails are screwed into the wall, slide the rail covers on for a clean, finished look.
Lastly, add the hooks and get your gear off the floor!
I made a video so you can see the before(AH!) and the process of hanging the rails!
What a difference this made! We have SO MUCH more space and I can quickly see all our tools when we walk in the garage. Next time you’re in The Home Depot, pick up one (or 2!) of these rails and see how quickly you can get your garage organized! I found the FastTrack display in our Home Depot in the Storage area (near lawn and garden).
Has your garage become a dumping ground? What’s holding you back from getting organized?
