I had a few goals for our home when we moved back in. After more than 18 months in limbo and our plans of moving abroad out the window, I set out to make our house a place we LOVED. My first goal was to maximize storage everywhere we could. We bought a couch with a pull out bed, built a murphy bed for our guest room, and added DIY bookshelf with built in cabinets for our dining room.

The next goal was to add more color wherever we could. That couch I mentioned? It’s turquoise! Our DIY bookshelf wall? It’s rainbow! Another goal was making the place more “homey” and I knew I could do that by adding more personal photos.

I had a few photo ledges I got years ago as an impulse buy that were unfinished wood. I’d thought I would paint them and put them up somewhere in the house but never came up with a good location. As I was putting the finishing touches on our dining room, I remembered the photo ledges. I knew these would be the perfect way to display more personal photos and my brain started swimming with ideas!
At first I thought about colorful frames with black and white photos. Black and white photos in a gallery wall can look stunning but it wasn’t the look I wanted. We’ve had so many amazing adventures literally around the globe and I wanted all the colors from around the world to be on display. Because of this, I opted to go with Contemporary White frames from Art to Frames.
Ultimately I chose this frame over the others because of its slim profile. Some of the other frames were much thicker and would be too wide for the picture ledge. After selecting the frame, I just went though and added in the size for each of the photos I wanted to frame.
I also opted to add a double mat; this was an awesome way to add a little pop of color without being too bold! Because this photo ledge gallery wall was right in front of our Rainbow bookshelf wall, I wanted a bit of color but didn’t need too much! Art to Frames has 49 color options for your photo mats! Custom photo frames not in your budget? You can also upgrade the mats in your current frames with these amazing color mats. Here’s the colors I went with:

After you’ve selected your frame and added mats if you want them you can choose your glass and hardware. I went ahead and added the saw tooth hangers in case I decided to hang my photos later instead of leaning them on the picture ledge.
