Get ready for the hottest season of the year with these home maintenance tips for summer!
This post is sponsored by One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning®. All thoughts and opinions are my own.Did you know there are parts of this county that central air conditioning isn’t STANDARD in a home? I’ve lived 29 hot, hot, summers in the south and when I recently visited Oregon and San Francisco I was shocked that most homes and hotels didn’t have air conditioning! Our AC is the one thing in our home I can’t survive without so it makes sense that it deserves a little TLC! Summer time can be brutal on our homes, so there are a few home maintenance tips that will get you through those tough few months. Doing the basic maintenance projects on your home and knowing when to call in the professionals will help keep things running smoothly in your home. When things run smoothly, you’ll have more time for family and friends (the things that truly matter!)
5 Home Maintenance Tips For Summer
Take care of all your “summer” cleaning!
Chances are, you haven’t cleaned the outside of your windows in months. You’ll want to clean that exterior glass and check all the window screens for damage. Summer is also the perfect time to pull out the power washer! Clean the exterior of your home (including those windows and doors!) then power wash your patio, walkways, and driveway! Your grass will love the extra watering! I also like to power wash a few of my rugs – especially the one we keep in our kitchen.
Clean your gutters.
We get quite a bit of rain living on the gulf coast! Just this week alone we’ve gotten 10 inches! Cleaning the gutters isn’t very fun – it’s usually really messy and it can be a pain to pull out the ladder and climb up but you’ll thank yourself later when it’s pouring rain and your gutters are cleared! Our trick to making the cleaning a little easier? We use our leaf blower!
Weather-proof your home.
While your checking your windows screens and cleaning those windows and doors, go ahead and check the seals around each of them. You want to make sure all your doors and windows are sealed properly – so apply new weather striping and caulk as needed. This will keep your home more energy efficient and hopefully cut down on your cooling costs this summer!
Check out your grill!
Summer means backyard barbecues and you can’t grill without fuel! Check that your gas grill has plenty of propane and ensure that all connections are secure. This is also a great time to give your grill a good cleaning! Use my deep cleaning hack to get your grill sparkling clean and ready for your next cook out!
Have your air conditioner serviced by a trained, skilled, and experienced technician.
We had our air conditioner serviced by our local One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning (part of the Direct Energy family of brands).
They have independently owned and operated locations around the country! Our technician was friendly and knowledgeable – he let me follow him around and ask questions the whole time! (Except going in the attic – that’s the one place in my house I don’t want to go!) He checked and serviced the main unit in our attic then did the same to the outside unit. Just look at the before and after!
Our technician checked for loose wires and duct work, cleared our drain lines, tested the performance of our AC, and cleaned the inside and out of our condenser. He also gave suggestions on things we can fix or upgrade. To get your AC serviced, you can find a location near you by visiting their website or calling 855-One-Hour.
With these home maintenance tips for summer, we can enjoy a home all summer long that’s clean, cool, and comfortable. We’re always looking for indoor activities during the hottest months, and we were recently able to enjoy game night. The one family member who loves the AC the most? Definitely our fluffy pooch, Barkley 🙂

Hi there,
I love your website and ideas. I wonder if you would share with me where you purchased the very colorful area rug you have in so many of your pics. Brightly colored red, orange blue greens.
Thank you
