Learn how to make a super simple DIY monster costume with this fun family costume idea!
When our son Theo was born, my doctor gave him is very first nickname! I had a rough pregnancy with gestational diabetes which led to our little guy growing a bit big! We’d even talked about possible induction as he was projected to grow to more than 10lbs if I hit 40 weeks.
When I got Preeclampsia and Theo had to be delivered via emergency c-section nearly 6 weeks early – this turned out to be a good thing! He was born already weighing 6 lbs 8 oz! Because he came early, he had to go into the NICU. Our amazing doctor called him “MONSTER BABY” since he was so big compared to the other NICU babies. She said he looked liked he could “gobble up the other babies!” We thought this was so funny and the nickname stuck!
Fast forward and we’re preparing for our first holiday season with our little one! The first holiday on the list: Halloween! We’re already having fun decorating, reading themed books, and of course planning our costumes.
We got some adorable costumes handed down that will make for adorable pictures – but our plan is to do trick or treating with his cousins. Since Theo is still tiny – he will be in his stroller. For safety, we decided instead of a puffy, oddly fitting costume, we want him to wear a basic onesie. I put together this super simple DIY monster costume that can easily be adjusted no matter what size your little monster is!
With these designs, I was able to create 3 different monster costumes. I used a pink shirt to create my “momster” outfit, a blue t-shirt for “dadcula”, and of course Monster baby got a cute little onesie!
My new Cricut Joy Xtra was perfect to cut these iron on vinyl designs. This machine is super compact and lightweight – making it easy to quickly pull out during nap time. The larger size of the Cricut Joy Xtra (compared to the original Cricut Joy) was perfect for the “adult” size designs for our DIY monster costumes!
Use these Design Space Files to cut these DIY Monster Costumes out of Iron On Vinyl and put them on t-shirts or onesies for a simple family costume idea.
