The holidays have come and gone. We spent our Christmas break with family in Oklahoma and I didn’t know what day it was for over a week. That’s because of a combination of cold medicine and 14 people in one house – but it was such a great holiday! We came home and our house was still sparkling and shining in all it’s Christmas glory like it was Christmas Eve and we were still waiting on the big man to arrive. We had a bit more time off for the New Year so I knew it’d be the perfect time to tidy up and organize all our Christmas decorations so that we could make room for some cozy winter decor!
How To Organize Christmas Decorations
Downsize where you can!
If you didn’t do a quick clean out of all your Christmas decor at the beginning of the season, now is the time! First go through and look for anything that’s broken and needs to be thrown away. Next, unless it has sentimental value, if you haven’t put it out in a few years it’s probably time to donate it! No need to keep holding onto decor you aren’t actually using. Especially since we only put up holiday decor for a few weeks. There’s no use holding onto it and storing it all year!
How to store Christmas ornaments
When I bought the ornaments for our tree, I saved all the plastic containers they came in. It helped to have somewhere to put them but that packaging wasn’t meant to be used year after year. Furthermore, we have a lot of sentimental ornaments that were gifts or hand me downs that didn’t have a safe place to be stored. We visited At Home and found the perfect storage solution! This large box has removable, stackable trays that are perfect for holding all our ornaments and keeping them from breaking.
How to store wreaths
We didn’t have the best method for storing our wreaths. They were taking up way too much space: I used hangers in our hall closet to hang them up. They hung out in there all year, but they took up a ton of space. I’d also prefer to keep all the holiday decor together. I found a big ol’ wreath bag at At Home that was perfect for storing our wreaths. I actually put 4 of them in there! Now they can hang out together in our garage attic until next season. They’re all together so I can find them easily when it’s time to pull them back down.
How to store wrapping paper
I keep the majority of our wrapping paper in our hall closet. I like to have it handy so anytime there’s a birthday or wedding I can easily get to the bows, bags, and paper. The problem? That can take up a lot of space. There’s also no reason to keep holiday specific paper out year round. I’m only using it during Christmas, so I decided to store all the holiday paper in a wrapping paper storage bag I found at At Home. I love that all the holiday stuff is now in matching bags and it’s up and out of the way for the majority of the year!
If your home is looking a little bare after all that Christmas decor is put away, take another trip to At Home and grab a few new throw pillows, blankets, and candles. This will make your home feel warm and cozy all winter long. At Home has amazing prices and endless options for every style and budget!
