International Women’s Day is celebrated each year on March 8th. If you know me personally, you know EVERY DAY is Women’s Day for me! I think we should celebrate the achievements of women everyday because gender inequality presents challenges that every single woman faces from the time they are a little girl. This year I made a special DIY flowerpot with an inspirational quote to celebrate and give a little daily reminder.
I used the quote “bloom where you are planted”. I’ve heard this quote many times and felt it could serve as a good daily reminder. Instead of getting bitter about the injustices in the world, we should all do our best to live in a way that overcomes them. Make the most of wherever you are – we all have a platform.
As a parent – teach your kiddos they can do and be anything they want; instead of reiterating socially constructed gender roles.
As a coworker – speak up when you hear sexist and inappropriate comments in the office.
As a neighbor – spread kindness to everyone around you.
As a friend – help your friends and understand we are not all starting on a level playing field.
DIY Flowerpot
I found this white flowerpot at The Dollar Tree for (you guessed it!) one dollar! I created the “Bloom where you are planted” file in the Cricut Design Studio. You can use my file here!
Step 1: Cut the “Bloom where you are planted” file with the Cricut.
Step 2: Weed the vinyl.
Step 3: Pick up design with transfer paper, position, and apply to your flowerpot.
“Bloom where you are planted” means we as individuals have the power to directly affect those around us and those small changes in the way we think and act can have a ripple effect to the world around us.
