Chances are you never leave home without your cell phone. There’s also a strong chance it’s no more than 3 feet from you at any given time. We’ve become so attached to our cell phones and take them everywhere we go. If you use the Maps app on your iPhone then you have Location Services enabled. But have you gone through the settings to see how many apps are actually using the location services? I had to turn a bunch off or to on “only when using app” so I could save my battery. I came across something today that was slightly alarming. Did you know your phone tracks your location and keeps a record of it? I had NO idea. Talking with my coworker the only scenario this would be useful is if you want to double check your kids are actually going where they say that are. I can’t think of any other time I would need to see every location I’ve been to and I really don’t see why Apple needs to know. Below are screenshots and instructions so you can check your iPhone and see if this option is enabled for you – and then turn it off!
Inside Location Services scroll all the way to the bottom and select System Services:
If Frequent Locations was on you can see a History of your frequent locations. From this screen you can turn this feature OFF so it will stop tracking your locations. If you choose a location in the History you can see an interesting map….
You can see a map of all of your locations for a specific period of time. Mine showed all my locations for the past month. I don’t leave the loop very often 😛 Also, I’m not sure how it knows which locations are “home” and “work”….
Was this feature enabled on your iPhone? What do you think about it? Let me know if you like this feature and what you would use it for!
