Wedding planning has gotten off to a slow start. Absolutely nothing has been set in stone yet. I can already tell the biggest obstacle for us will be planning a wedding while living 450 miles away…. We’ve even gone back and forth on whether or not we want the wedding in Houston! Our church here has a pretty chapel on campus and it is is BEAUTIFUL with cute courtyards etc. But that means nearly EVERYONE has to fly/drive here whereas if it’s in Oklahoma most our guests would be close.
Setting the date has been a challenge as well. I’ve always wanted an outdoor wedding so I assumed it would be in spring since that’s when the grass, flowers, and trees are the prettiest. My mom got married in my grandma’s backyard so I always thought that would be fun as well. The great thing about that is we could do it whenever we want; no need to have a venue available and there’s plenty of room. The bad thing is there is a LOT more planning involved. We’d have to rent a tent, tables, chairs, linens, a caterer, etc. etc. etc. So we’ve been looking into different venues in Oklahoma where we can do more of a “package deal”. We are going to tour some when we are home for mother’s day weekend next month and I’m really excited! The wedding will either be this fall (if we can find a venue available in September or October) or next spring sometime. As soon as we find a venue we can let the fun parts like dress shopping and cake tasting begin! I’m so ready to have a date so I can pick my bridesmaids!!
Aside from wedding planning I’ve been busy as usual. I had a really fun girls night a while back with some girls from church. We went to Kendra Scott in Rice Village and had champagne & cupcakes, designed our own jewelry, then ate Cuban food at El Meson.
Eric’s company had a Casino Night at a hotel downtown and we had a great time. I’ve decided blackjack is the only game I really like. We rode the train to the party since it was down the street from my work.
Last week was full of BAD LUCK! We went to a movie last weekend and my car was towed! Whoops! It was $230 to get it back!!! We learned our lesson on that one. Then later that week my apartment building CAUGHT ON FIRE! Of course when the alarms start going off everyone just kinda moseys out of their apartments and congregates out front assuming it’s a drill or someone pulled the alarm as a prank. Even the fire department showed up kinda sluggish. They went into the building with just a t-shirt and their uniform pants. A few minutes later they run out and suit up completely! Masks and all! Everyone started paying attention at that point and realized something was really happening! It turns out a girl came home and laid her purse on the stove (we have flat top electric stoves) and accidentally turned it on. So she left to walk her dogs and the purse caught on fire. Luckily the fire didn’t spread because the sprinkler system came on. Boy did it come on! Water was EVERYWHERE! It was like a waterfall coming out of her balcony. Good to know those systems work and I had a great Fire Protection/Safety Engineer to explain it all to me 馃槈
This past weekend one of the high school groups at church put on Oklahoma! the musical. I was so excited! They did a great job and it was a fun way to spend the afternoon.
It’s been kinda yucky weather this week in Houston. Lots of foggy days and it’s extremely humid! But it’s warm so I don’t hate it. A little drizzle didn’t keep me from Yoga in the park this week 馃檪
I can’t wait to head to Dallas tonight to spend time with some of my best friends! It’s going to be a great weekend! I’ll post pics next week!
